Hearing and Balance Center

The Hearing and Balance Center, a joint venture of Our Lady of the Lake and the LSU Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, offers comprehensive services devoted specifically to restoring and maintaining the function of hearing, balance and equilibrium (vestibular) systems. Equipped with the latest diagnostic tests, treatments and research, our number-one priority is to improve our patients' hearing.

Two of our doctors have been ranked in U.S. News and World Report's top 1% of physicians in the Ear, Nose and Throat specialty for two consecutive years. In addition, Our Lady of the Lake was named in 2011 one of U.S. News and World Report's Best Hospitals, specifically in this specialty. In 2012, OLOL was ranked top hospital in Baton Rouge and fourth best in the state of Louisiana.

Hearing and Balance Center Services

Through a multidisciplinary approach to the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of hearing and balance issues, the Hearing and Balance Center provides an academically based, cost-effective, thorough level of care that benefits patients and referring physicians-one of the few facilities in the country to concentrate on this specialty.
Hearing loss and balance disorders resulting from any cause are treated. These include:

• Childhood hearing loss
• Chronic ear infections and otosclerosis
• Aging and autoimmune hearing loss
• Loss from trauma, noise or ototoxicity (damage to the ear by a toxin)
• Ménière's disease, vertigo and fistula
• Migraine -associated dizziness
• Multifactor disequilibrium and fall risk
• Skull base tumors including acoustic neuroma and meningioma
• Glomus tumors (glomus jugulare tumors and glomus tympanum tumors)
• Bell's palsy and facial nerve paralysis
• Ear cancer
