Advanced Techniques Remove Thyroid Tumors Without Visible Neck Scars
Surgeons with the Head and Neck Center at OLOL are among the first in the state to use new technology and procedures to remove thyroid tumors without leaving a visible scar on the neck by offering transaxillary robotic thyroidectomy or robotic assisted surgery to remove tumors in the thyroid gland. This procedure requires the surgeon to undergo specialized training, and is only offered at a small number of facilities in the country and only one other hospital in the state. With a traditional surgical method, patients would have a scar right over the throat in the front of the neck. With the robotic approach, the incision is made under the arm so there is no visible scar for the patient. Additional benefits include less pain in the neck area and a faster recovery.
